Medical Technologies and Usability Testing
Human factors and usability research play a pivotal role in the medical design process. It is critical of course to to evaluate a product or device by testing it with potential users, which for us can be physicians and pharmacists but more usually are patients, nurses or technicians.
We have extensive experience of planning and conducting usability studies in conjunction with clients. We have delivered projects in the UK and globally on a wide range of medical devices and technologies including drug delivery systems such as pens and inhalers, patient monitoring devices, syringes, IV Sets, IV Catheters, Infusion Pumps and also on large equipment such as x-ray imaging devises where we recruit respondents to attend manufacturers premises to provide feedback.
Essentially we support clients with 3 types of projects in this area:
- Usability testing involving systematic observation under controlled conditions to determine how well patients / HCPs can use the product
- Ethnographic observational studies
- Qualitative market research with Patients and HCPs
Sometimes both qualitative research and usability testing are used in combination
